Avatar Secrets is an interactive documentary that explores the complexities of human connection in the real and digital worlds as told through the true life experiences of writer/director, Ramona Pringle. Organized into 10 beautifully animated chapters, Avatar Secrets features numerous rich-media “margin notes” along with links to case studios, additional video content and interviews with some of the foremost thinkers in media and technology.

Avatar Secrets chronicles writer/director Ramona Pringle’s personal journey across borders and bandwidths in search of love, meaning and community in the 21st century. Faced with a string of personal challenges, Ramona ventures online and into the world of MMORPGs (massively multiplayer online role-playing games). There, she creates a digital avatar — a healer called ‘Tristanova’ — and sets off on her first quest. After reaching Level Two of the game, Ramona finds herself lost… very lost. Eventually she asks another player for help. This leads her to discover the first ‘avatar secret’ — that the hardest part of the quest isn’t the quest itself, it’s admitting that you can’t do it alone.
